Monroe, N.C. (Monday, September 8, 2008) - In a weekend dominated by inclement weather following the effects of Tropical Storm Hanna, Team JVC Everio driver Derrike Cope notched a 31st-place result in the delayed running of Sunday night’s Nationwide Series event at Richmond.
Originally slated to run Friday night, ominous weather reports forced NASCAR’s hand into canceling Friday’s qualifying session while shifting the race to be run Sunday night following the Sprint Cup Series event, which was also postponed. Nonetheless, Cope and Team JVC were undeterred heading into the rescheduled event.
Assigned to the 30th starting position based on Nationwide Series car owner points, Cope established himself steadily around the top-30 in the running order in his No. 4 JVC Everio Chevy. Caution flags are displayed quite often at the short track events, and Sunday’s race was no exception. Nine yellow flags were thrown during the race, but Cope expertly avoided each of the melees as he achieved the solid result.
Cope, Team JVC Everio, and the result of the Nationwide Series competitors will enjoy a scheduled off-weekend before resuming action the week after at the Dover Int’l Speedway.
